Lessons from Our Forefathers
This Fourth of July, as we celebrate and reflect upon the positives in our American heritage, and as many of us seek solutions for restoring those troubled areas in our current culture, there are a few things that come to mind that can encourage us to hold on to the valuable lessons that were passed down to us by our country’s forefathers.
The first lesson(s) are found in the above video (you’ll have to watch it to find out what they are).
The second thing I notice is out of 1 Timothy:
First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. (1 Timothy 2:1-3)
Some of the people this verse says to pray for are the kings. I believe that in this present day we could (and should) include those in government authority, specifically for President Obama & his entire staff. Living by the truth found in the Bible is one of the key examples that I believe the founders of our nation laid down for us, and one that we should definitely hold on to. This is one way, too, that we can affect positive and lasting change in our government. On this the anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, may we pray for those who are in authority.
