We live in a world where men are portrayed as being out-of-touch, old fashioned, intolerant and sometimes just plain stupid. On television Fathers are mocked and are to be pitied most of all. It seems that no one is more out-of-touch! While it’s true that we have brought some of this on ourselves by our own actions, … I want to remind you that we are created in His image and He has a totally different perspective on what it looks like AND means to be a man.
We are commanded to be strong:
Joshua 1:9 — “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
We have been assigned the task of the Watchman – standing firm, acting like men with strength and love:
1 Corinthians 16:13-14 — “Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.”
We are to be a “wall” for our families – steadfast, immovable, and willing to work:
1 Corinthians 15:58 — “Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.”
And finally – we are urged by the Word to be self-controlled: (well, at least the younger men are)
Titus 2:6 — “Likewise, urge the younger men to be self-controlled.”
Be strong. Be watchful. Be steadfast. Be self-controlled.
…let’s give our families AND the world a true picture of what it means to be a man. Let’s take back our title and place and truly and lovingly lead our families and impact our world. Let’s show Hollywood and everyone else what a man looks like from God’s perspective.
