Now if we know anything about the “philosophy of the world”, we know it is based on HUMAN TRADITION. It is a religion called “secular humanism”, and the society of our nation, especially in the fields of education, science, and government have adopted this humanistic philosophy. It is so strong and subtle a force of influence through these agencies that most of us are not aware that we are still carrying its precepts into our lives as we seek to live out our Christian faith.

In His foresight, God obviously saw the coming of this deception, and through Paul, the Holy Spirit tells us that “the world’s rules and regulations” bring about “self-imposed worship” rather than worship of Christ and following His gospel. In Colossians 2:23 he says, “Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility, and their harsh treatment of the body, but THEY LACK ANY VALUE in restraining SENSUAL indulgence”. That last phrase means “satisfying the flesh”.

A.W. Tozer said, “Over the last twenty years there has been a religious debauch hardly equalled since Israel worshipped the golden calf. Of us Bible Christians it may be truthfully said that we ‘sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play’. The separating line between the Church and the world has been all but obliterated. Aside from a few of the grosser sins, the sins of the unregenerated world are now approved by a shocking number of professedly ‘born-again’ Christians, and copied eagerly. The moral climate is not that of the New Testament”.

As we mentioned, the second thing that many of us have let happen in our walk wit the Lord is the stopping of the maturing process of our lives as believers. Paul said to the Corinthian Church, “I could not address you as spiritual, but as worldly – mere infants in Christ. I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready. You are still worldly!” And the writer of Hebrews cries out, “Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature. Let us GO ON TO MATURITY” (emphasis mine).

In his “Newsletter to the Body of Christ”, a friend and brother in the Lord from Uganda says, “God desires to CONTINUALLY dwell among His people, and for the manifestation of His presence to be experienced by them, and to be noticed by the world around about them. We can see that it is sin among God’s people which hinders God’s manifest presence. In fact, for God to dwell in the midst of a group of people who have wickedness in their midst is a very dangerous thing. His judgement will flow out of His presence to punish them in terrible ways. This is what happened to Ananias and Sapphira, who died instantly when they attempted to deceive the Holy Spirit. Never, ever, pray seriously for God’s manifest presence to come down upon your group if you have not turned from your wicked ways. Either God will not come down, or your be praying judgement upon yourselves”.
