“Give thanks in all circumstances for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus.” (I Thessalonians 5:18)
There we have it for Thanksgiving 2015! Perhaps our circumstances are wonderful! Provision. Good health. All is well. All is bright! Give thanks! Do not fail to say, “Thank you, Dear Lord.”
Perhaps, all is not well, all is not bright. Give thanks! We see through a glass so very dimly during our earthly stay. Eternity is in the mind of the Father, not especially in ours. The NOW is so very important and heart-felt to each of us. In the midst of it all…GIVE THANKS!
The Pilgrims, who founded our beloved nation could easily have turned back and refused to face the hardships before them. Pilgrim chronicler and later governor of the Plymouth Colony wrote: “In many of these storms the winds were so fierce, and the seas so high, as they could not bear a knot of sail, but were forced to heave to [face into the wind to stop the ship], for many days together.” Are the winds in your life blowing fierce? Are you sailing in strange waters? “GIVE THANKS!”
Starvation and sickness wiped out about half their original 100, along with 18 of the 30 women of childbearing age. During that time, heroic nursing measures by people such as Miles Standish and future governor William Bradford helped pull the survivors through. Are you or a loved one facing a sickness, disease, or a loss? “GIVE THANKS!”
Squanto met his Pilgrim friends in March of 1621 and served as a translator, ambassador, and treaty negotiator for the new settlers. More importantly, he taught the Pilgrims to live off the land. Is God calling you to be a help to someone? Perhaps a community, a church, a nation?“ GIVE THANKS!”
Fear encapsulated those brave pioneers who blazed the footpaths before us. But, their perfect love for God and to worship Him in truth cast out the fear that so easily beset them. They gave thanks that…Thanksgiving! So must we! Who knows? Each of us may be blazing a pathway for others to follow.
Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at CTCI! We give thanks for each of you!!!
