This morning’s devotion by Susan Pons reveals where we can find God and find peace in the midst of our circumstances.

“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him.” (Psalm 137:7)

What an incredible command from the Lord in these days of whirling thoughts, opinions and actions, driving us into one more act of toil.

This is not a new dilemma in our world.

Elijah, one of God’s most passionate servants had to learn this lesson as well in the midst of fervent service to Israel and to God.

“Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord.”

And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire came a gentle whisper (I Kings 19:11-12).

So, today, no matter what turmoil that is going on in our personal, national, or world events, let’s turn our eyes and ears away from the circumstance and listen for the gentle whisper.

He is there in the whisper.

  1. What particular prayer are you waiting for the Lord to answer?
  2. What should be our position before the Lord in hearing the answer?
  3. Why do you believe the Lord requires of us to hear His whisper?

Please let us know how you would answer these questions!
