CTCI Morning Musings
Last week as we sat around the fireplace seeking the Lord’s Presence, I stared at the fire and I began to think about the different ways God uses fire in the Bible.
The Lord uses fire in the Bible for communicating as with Moses and the burning bush (Exodus chapter 3). He uses fire to show His wrath (Lamentations 2:4, 2 Kings 1:14, Psalm 89:46, Numbers 11:1, 2 Thessalonians 1:7-8). He uses fire to display His image/countenance (Revelation 1:14, Acts 2:3, Exodus 24:17, Exodus 3:2-6). Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were completely protected in the fire (Daniel chapter 3).
God also uses His fire for purification and refining (1 Corinthians 3:13, Luke 3:16).
1 Corinthians 3:13 – …their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work.
Luke 3:16 – John answered them all, “I baptize you with water. But One who is more powerful than I will come, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.”
As we listen and meditate on the words to this song below by Hillsong United, may we truly in our hearts seek the Holy One to send His Spirit upon us and to purify and refine us! May we be obedient to His instruction!
“Fire fall down on us we pray, as we seek You now!
