What does it mean to be “Set Apart for the Lord”?

Good morning from all of us here at the Christian Training Center International! We invite you to join us as we study, through God’s Word, what it means to be set apart for the Lord. We will see what we can do (and not do) to be obedient to this holy calling.

Be Holy. If you have chosen Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, then be holy. He says to do this, and He provides the ability to do this. The Lord has, even from the beginning, been telling His people to be holy because He is holy. We are chosen, royal, holy – we are to proclaim the excellencies of Him who called us out of darkness and into His marvelous Light. The Lord God has chosen us for Himself. We are set apart for Him. He that is in us is greater than he that is in the world.

Honor the Lord, don’t dishonor Him. The Lord welcomes us when we come out from the midst of the sin in the world and do not touch what is unclean. In other words, don’t do what we know is dishonoring to Him. Don’t do what is wrong. We now rejoice in the work of the Holy Spirit of God to perfect holiness in us in the fear of God. It’s not something we could ever do in our own strength. We welcome sanctification, and even pursue it, as the Lord cleanses us from all of our uncleanness in His timing from the inside out – body, soul, mind, and spirit. He searches us to the very depths and reveals what needs to be changed, as He knows what the best order and timing is.

Take time to LISTEN to Him. We hear God while reading His Word, while in prayer, and when we seek Him. We need to be purposeful about listening to and heeding the Spirit’s leading. When we allow the Holy Spirit to work in us, He renews and transforms our hearts and minds so that we can understand and even desire what the good and perfect will of God is. This is a gift. This gift is for the asking.

Seek His Kingdom and His righteousness. We, as set apart people, are to intentionally seek the things above, not things on this earth, as our lives are now hidden with Christ. Christ in us is the mystery. He allows us to share with Him a heavenly perspective even though we are living here on this earth. We can see a bigger picture, we can see the Lord working in things here in our midst, and we can choose to work with Him! With the Helper, the Holy Spirit of God, we can see beyond our circumstances to His higher purpose and glorify Him in all things. We have an eternal hope for life with him forever.

Choose today whom you will serve. We can only serve one master. We are to be aware lest pride grow in us. The lusts of the world and the pride of this human life are not of God. This is probably one of the most challenging lessons to overcome – but by His strength we do overcome. We can only serve one master – these words are profound, but I trust with the Spirit of Truth in us we can understand them. Anything not of God is service to the wrong master. Not only should we avoid all works of darkness, but we are to expose it into the light. He is the Light. The Light overcomes the darkness.

We are to pursue peace with all men. We are to make it our ambition to lead a quiet life and attend to our own business and work.

Jesus says, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep my commandments.”

Psalm 24:3-4, “Who may ascend the hill of the Lord? And who may stand in His holy place?
He who has clean hands and a pure heart,
Who has not lifted up his soul to falsehood
And has not sworn deceitfully”.

This is a high calling! The Lord gives us His Holy Spirit, that through Him we may attain to this calling! We still are imperfect humans, but He helps us! Thank You Father God for loving us so much and reconciling us to You!

*Leviticus 11:45, Deuteronomy 14:2, Psalm 4:3, 1 Peter 2:9, 1 John 4:4, 2 Corinthians 6:17, 2 Corinthians 7:1, Romans 12:2, Colossians 3:1-3, 1 John 2:15-16, Matthew 6:24, Ephesians 5:11, John 14:23, 1 Peter1:15-16, Hebrews 12:14, 1 Thessalonians 4:11

These are some of the truths we teach during our Heroes ten-week semester program (ages 18-26) as young people come here seeking a set apart time with the Lord. They are seeking His purpose and calling for their lives as they set out to establish their place in this world. They are choosing to be rooted in Christ’s firm foundation.

We want to get to know you! Will you consider coming here for a set apart time with the Lord? We have other options if you don’t fall into this age group. If you would like information on any of the programs or events coming up at the Christian Training Center International, we will be happy to get back with you quickly!
