Is is a wise thing to do good?

It is a wise thing to “do good”.

I know that “good works” won’t save me. Only the redemptive act of Jesus can do that. We are saved by grace through faith, but we are saved “to do good works” .

Having been redeemed by Jesus, I am to do good.

Get insurance with God and do a good deed, settle down and stick to your last. Keep company with God, get in on the best. | ~King David | Psalm 37:3-4 (The Message Bible)

Paul drives this home in Ephesians 2. Salvation is not of myself and not through my own effort. It is the undeserved, gracious gift of God. It is not as a result of my works nor my attempts to keep the Law, so that I won’t be able to boast or take credit in any way for my salvation.

For I am His workmanship His own master work, a work of art, created in the Messiah Jesus reborn from above — spiritually transformed, renewed, ready to be used for good works, which God prepared for me beforehand taking paths which He set, so that I would walk in them living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for me.

Jesus spoke of laying up treasures in heaven, and His parable of the talents hints at various rewards for those who faithfully serve Him in this world.

To hear those words, “Well done, good and faithful servant,” from Jesus, first make sure you are saved. The unbelieving will never hear those words, for “without faith it is impossible to please God” (Hebrews 11:6). And recognize that Jesus is not only your Savior; He is also your Master (see Luke 6:46). “Serve the Master with gladness!” (Psalm 100:2, ESV).

Leadership the Jesus: A Faith at work series — Looking how to focus your faith at work? | This series of leadership programs focuses on leadership skills that drive the purpose and passion for work as laid out by Jesus and based on sound scripture. We might see faith and work as estranged. It can be frustrating. But, in truth, faith and work should share a crucial aim: to see the unseen at work through the power of the Holy Spirit. Nothing new has been made without faith in God. Nothing unseen has been seen without work. When the force of what we do hits why we do it, we wither, or we flourish. Learn more here.
