Are we treating Jesus with contempt?

We live in a world that holds and treats Jesus with contempt. Jesus suffered greatly for us. That was why He came.

Jesus came to suffer and pay the penalty for my missing God’s goal so that I don’t have to. He did it with joy, knowing what waited for him on the other side of the grave.

And Jesus said to them, “Elijah does first come and restore all things. And yet how is it written of the Son of Man that He will suffer many things and be treated with contempt?” | ~Jesus | Mark 9:12

Jesus warns me about contempt as well. Contempt is very dangerous. It is the attitude of I’m righteous (and right about doctrine) and you are not. I can’t trust in myself. I am not righteous without Jesus. I can’t look down on others because we all miss God’s goal (aka sin).

And Jesus also told this parable to some people who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and viewed others with contempt. (Luke 18:9 )

ἐξουθενέω exouthenéō, ex-oo-then-eh’-o is the Greek word. It means contemptible, despise, least esteemed, and set at naught.

And so, when I follow Jesus my King, I am held in contempt as well. Now that is good news, as God has chosen me. It is His plan to take a silly and stupid person like myself to confound the wise. So there we go!

God has a purpose. God knows what He is doing. God knows who He is choosing to bring the good news of Jesus to elites of this world.

God has selected for His purpose the insignificant base things of the world, and the things that are despised and treated with contempt, even the things that are nothing, so that He might reduce to nothing the things that are, so that no one may be able to boast in the presence of God. But it is from Him that you are in the Messiah Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God revealing His plan of salvation, and righteousness making us acceptable to God, and sanctification making us holy and setting us apart for God, and redemption providing our ransom from the penalty for missing God’s goal (aka sin), so then, as it is written in Scripture, “He who boasts and glories, let him boast and glory in the Lord.” | 1 Corinthians 1:26-31 (Amplified Bible)

Monthly giving is an important way to support our mission. The most effective way to learn a foreign language is through immersion. In complete immersion, students spend all their time hearing and speaking a new language in a sequential and cumulative format. The goal is to become not only a proficient speaker, but to acquire an appreciation and understanding of a new culture. This approach describes the training process at the Christian Training Center.
