Cal’s Creative Corner

We are honored that Cal Huge is selling his photos to exclusively benefit the Christian Training Center International.

Cal and his family came to the Christian Training Center in January of 1990 from Lausanne, Switzerland.  As part of his position with YWAM, much of his time was spent traveling into various African countries. During 1989 he was in 26 countries in Africa and Europe assisting in the return to Europe of the Anastasis.   As 1990 approached, he was exhausted, discouraged and needing a place of restoration and refreshment.

As only God in His mercy can arrange, Cal and his family found the perfect “resting spot” in the mountains of North Carolina at a place known as “The Inn of Last Resort.”  Although learning to rest from the stress of a hectic, unsustainable pace was a crucial part of the three-month program known as “Train to Reign,” the key feature was an induction into the disciplined Christian life.  The highest priority was placed on actually walking out what the Bible teaches, condensing it all down to loving God and loving your neighbor.

Cal and his family developed a close relationship with the Pons family which has only grown throughout the years.  Cal and Bu have worked with and supported the Christian Training Center International in many roles.

Take a visit to his Etsy store. A portion of the proceeds of each sale goes to the Christian Training Center International. The listings are only a small portion of the photos available and more will be added each week.  If you have a specific request for scripture on any print or a particular subject that isn’t shown, email Cal through Etsy.

Cal is a lifelong learner. His occupations have included attorney, farmer, coordinator for relief and development projects, Basketball Coach, Finance Manager, Sailor, Head of School, CEO of Mercy Ships and Photographer.

He began dabbling in photography in 1998 while recuperating from health issues that required him to “take it easy”.  The roses he planted and cared for in Charlotte, North Carolina, became his first subjects.  Although his diverse career paths kept him from pursuing courses in photography, he rarely traveled without a camera and honed his “artistic” eye in Europe, the Middle East and Africa while working with Christian relief and development organizations.

Now fully retired since 2009, he has finally had the time to take some technical photography courses to improve his skills. At age 65 he became a certified scuba diver and soon thereafter discovered the joys of underwater photography.

To capture a scene in a millisecond of time, study the intricacies, the play of light and shadow and other details often obscured by the familiar has become his new passion. His desire is to show through photographs the glory in creation.
