What does it mean to alert and sober minded?

What does it mean to alert and sober minded?

In this message, Christian Training Center Director Larry Pons takes us through the book of 1 Peter. 1 Peter 4: 4-11 (Full Video)

1 Peter 4:4-11 Christian Standard Bible (CSB)

They are surprised that you don’t join them in the same flood of wild living—and they slander you. They will give an account to the one who stands ready to judge the living and the dead. For this reason the gospel was also preached to those who are now dead, so that, although they might be judged in the flesh according to human standards, they might live in the spirit according to God’s standards.

End-Time Ethics

The end of all things is near; therefore, be alert and sober-minded for prayer. Above all, maintain constant love for one another, since love covers a multitude of sins. Be hospitable to one another without complaining. 10 Just as each one has received a gift, use it to serve others, as good stewards of the varied grace of God. 11 If anyone speaks, let it be as one who speaks God’s words; if anyone serves, let it be from the strength God provides, so that God may be glorified through Jesus Christ in everything. To him be the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen.

Our programs are like an immersion into a new language – the language of living in Jesus.  The goal is fluency in the language of relationships.  Programs share a sequential vision, building an understanding of relationships and family culture.  The foundation is an encounter with Jesus.  This encounter is the means for both insight and vision.  Encountering Jesus leads a radical change in living and relationships.

Should we expect to always get our way?

We can learn to think like Jesus. He didn’t expect to get His own way.

Now that is radical. Who doesn’t want to get their own way? Seriously.

But that misses God’s goal for our lives. God has a goal for us. He wants us to love Him completely. That is all.

All I need to do is love others as if my life depends on it.

Love One Another

Love One Another

Oh yes. There are times I felt my life depended on many things. Things don’t love. Things are immaterial to eternal life found in Jesus. Jesus has a goal for us.

This good word from the Apostle Peter sets a wonderful standard for me. All I need to do is love others as if my life depends on it.

AND, my life does depend on it. I can’t have the life God intends for me without love.

Life in God = Love

God has a goal in mind for me. I should be cheerful. I should be generous. If I am, He will get all the credit.

May I love in such a way that it makes up for practically anything. Wouldn’t that be an amazing thing. That is the way of Jesus. That is God’s goal for all of us.

Jesus does it. Here is the deal.

Love more, worry less.

Most of all, love each other as if your life depended on it. Love makes up for practically anything. Be quick to give a meal to the hungry, a bed to the homeless—cheerfully. Be generous with the different things God gave you, passing them around so all get in on it: if words, let it be God’s words; if help, let it be God’s hearty help. That way, God’s bright presence will be evident in everything through Jesus, and he’ll get all the credit as the One mighty in everything—encores to the end of time. Oh, yes!”

Will God lead us in a direction that he won’t give us strength to endure?

GlorySome people don’t get what God is doing. They see His powerful Spirit working in us and are confused about what it means.

They ridicule, scoff, mock and minimize His mighty work. When that happens, we are fortunate. Nothing like some abuse heaped on us because of Him.

God has a goal for us. It may require that to bring glory to God we must suffer. Others may mock us because of what God is doing. We should consider ourselves fortunate.
