What do we know about fools from Proverbs?

What do we know about fools from Proverbs?

I want wisdom. It is important to my daily walk with Jesus.

Sometimes it helps, in understanding something, is to look and see what it is not.

The following is a partial list of some characteristics of a fool from the book of Proverbs:

  • A fool hates knowledge (1:22)
  • Takes no pleasure in understanding (18:2)
  • Enjoys wicked schemes (Proverbs 10:23)
  • Proclaims folly (Proverbs 12:23)
  • Spurns a parent’s discipline (15:5)
  • Speaks perversity (19:1)
  • Is quick-tempered (12:16)
  • Gets himself in trouble with his proud speech (14:3)
  • Mocks at sin (14:9)
  • Is deceitful (14:8)
  • Despises his mother (15:20)
  • A foolish child brings grief to his or her parents (17:25; 19:13)
  • A foolish man commits sexual immorality (6:32; 7:7–12)
  • A foolish woman tears down her own house (14:1)
  • The ultimate description of a fool is one who “says in his heart, ‘There is no God.’
  • They are corrupt, and their ways are vile; there is no one who does good” (Psalm 14:1; 53:1).

Can Atheism Ground Reason?

In a recent video, Sean McDowell discusses atheism and how it fails to explain reason. “If atheism is true, it undermines any confidence we can have in our reasoning faculties because they’re a result of a blind, purposeless, immaterial process,” Sean McDowell says.

“But why can Christians believe in the reliability of our cognitive faculties? Because God Himself is reasonable. … We are made in the image of a God Who’s reasonable Himself.”

Who are the God-haters? Why do they act evil?

God Haters

I sure feel like this some days.

I do good (or at least I think I do).

What do I get back? Evil. Pure evil and hatred. If you don’t believe it, you should read the comments I get on Twitter. It is pretty vile. It takes a thick skin to stand up for Jesus against God-haters.

I give out good and get back evil from God-haters who can’t stand a God-lover. ~King David | Psalm 38:20

“Worship Me or Burn” – The Oversimplification of an Atheist Meme

Evan Minton is a Christian Apologist and blogger at Cerebral Faith (www.cerebralfaith.blogspot.com). He is the author of “Inference To The One True God” and “A Hellacious Doctrine.” He has engaged in several debates which can be viewed on Cerebral Faith’s “My Debates” section. Mr. Minton lives in South Carolina, USA.

Atheists frequently mock God through memes or tweets or social comments that basically go something like the following; “God says ‘Love me, or I’ll torture you forever!’ Such a good God”, “Worship me or burn!”, or “Believe and worship me, or be punished forever! Ahh… such love.” The implication in these sarcastic posts is that God is an evil self-serving monster.

He demands worship and adoration, and if you don’t give it to Him, watch out! He’ll throw you in the lake of fire to experience agonizing, unending torture! The problem with this tactic is that it grossly oversimplifies God’s judgment of unbelievers and fails to understand precisely what the problem of sin and Hell are. It fails to understand why idolatry is a sin worthy of punishment. It’s easy to make an idea look silly if you oversimplify it, and social media atheists are known for their oversimplification of Christian doctrines.

History of the Christian Training Center

There is power in prayer. We see it every day. Let us join with you in tapping into the Power of God. Click here to make a request.

In the early 1970’s, Jay and Sally Fesperman had a vision to open a retreat center for businessmen.  It was from this desire that they founded the Inn of Last Resort.  In the simplest of words – “Life is Relationships” – Jay Fesperman defined the heart of the ministry. Since its inception, “The Inn” has been involved in training and giving counsel to numerous families, pastors and lay people. The “Inn of the Last Resort” aptly alludes to the condition of many people who have found their way to this sanctuary in the rural Smoky Mountains. As word of the ministry spread, our name was revised to Christian Training Center International. Learn more here.

Global Influence

In 1980, Larry and Susan Pons joined the Fespermans in the ministry. Before Jay’s passing in 1992, CTCI had grown to be more global in its influence. Expansion of the ministry’s impact began to reach overseas and has subsequently brought scores of fellow Christians here for training and renewal. During its existence, over 70,000 people from more than 60 nations have come through the doors seeking a deeper reality of God in their lives.

 Our Prayer

Our prayer and focus has remained the same for years. First, that Jesus be Lord over all, through all and in all. Secondly that healthy, Godly relationships will always be the driving force of this ministry. This is the heartbeat of the ministry that the Lord has given us, and it is one we trust the Lord will continue to lead us in until He returns.

Atheism Is Inconsistent with the Scientific Method, Prizewinning Physicist Says

This is a great article about Marcelo Gleiser.

Marcelo Gleiser, a 60-year-old Brazil-born theoretical physicist at Dartmouth College and prolific science popularizer, has won this year’s Templeton Prize. Valued at just under $1.5 million, the award from the John Templeton Foundation annually recognizes an individual “who has made an exceptional contribution to affirming life’s spiritual dimension.” Its past recipients include scientific luminaries such as Sir Martin Rees and Freeman Dyson, as well as religious or political leaders such as Mother Teresa, Desmond Tutu and the Dalai Lama.

What is Christian Apologetics and Why is it Important?

What is apologetics and why is it so important? Kendra Fletcher provides some great insight. She is a mother of 8, speaker, author, and podcaster. She is the author of Lost and Found: Losing Religion, Finding Grace, and Leaving Legalism, and she regularly writes for Key Life Ministries.

But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them nor be troubled, but in your hearts honor the Messiah the Master as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is within you: yet do it with gentleness and respect (1 Peter 3:15).

If you’ve been around church or church people for any length of time, you may have heard the term “apologetics” and wondered what it means. More importantly, you may have read the above verse from 1 Peter and wondered how the defense of your faith plays out in the real world.

The word “apologetics” stems from the Greek word “apologia”, which means defending one’s beliefs through proofs or reason. But what does it look like to “make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason”? Will we have to be Biblical scholars or seminary graduates in order to engage in apologetics?

Is the resurrection of Jesus evidence of God?

Good news of God

Good news of God

Jesus rose from the dead. That is amazing and represents the good news of God.

God is not dead. We stand against the notion because we know the power of God. We have great evidence that Jesus rose from the dead into an incorruptible body.

We are a people of good news. People are confused. They are looking to find the way. Jesus is the WAY, the TRUTH and the LIFE! That is amazing.

Jesus calls on us to be a witness to the goodness of God. I can do that!

“The urgency to preach the Good News is as true today as it was two thousand years ago, even if some scholars have naively declared God to be dead, forgetting that they are dealing with a God who found His way out of the grave…”

~ Roman Catholic Cardinal Ivan Dias implores Anglican Bishops at the Lambeth Conference to stand against “moral confusion.”

Responses to the assertion that the Bible condones slavery

Frequently, atheists and agnostics point to the Bibles support of slavery as a reason not to believe in God. In this article, we’re offered “Quick Shot” responses to the objection, Quick Shot: “The Bible condones slavery.”

J. Warner Wallace is a Dateline featured Cold-Case Detective, Senior Fellow at the Colson Center for Christian Worldview, Adj. Professor of Christian Apologetics at Talbot School of Theology, Biola University, author of Cold-Case ChristianityGod’s Crime Scene, and Forensic Faith, and creator of the Case Makers Academy for kids.

Response #1: “What do you mean by ‘slavery’? Are you referring to the kind of ‘new world’ slavery that is part of our history as Americans? That form of slavery was very different than the ‘ancient near-eastern’ servitude described in the Bible. Slaves in America were taken so that their masters would benefit economically, but biblical ‘slavery’ was often focused on the economic relief of the servant. American slaves were taken into captivity against their will, but in biblical times, the path into ‘slavery’ was varied and, in many cases, voluntary. American slaves were often treated as property, but biblical ‘slaves’ were treated as humans and protected by biblical law. American slaves had little recourse if they wanted to be free of their master, but biblical ‘slaves’ were offered severalpaths to freedom. Have you considered the fact that the servitude described in the Bible is nothing like the slavery you might have in mind?”

OR

Response #2: “The slavery described in the Bible is nothing like the kind of slavery known to the modern world. In most cases it was far closer to ‘indentured servitude,’ and involved people who were either accused of a crime or were working to pay off a debt. Despite this reality, many modern-era Christians misinterpreted biblical descriptions of ‘slavery’ to advance their own selfish subjugation of American and European slaves. This doesn’t mean they were properly interpreting what the Bible says about slaves, however. In fact, the abolition movement in America and abroad was formed (and eventually implemented) by Christians like William Wilberforce, Charles Spurgeon, John Wesley and the entire Quaker movement. They cited the authority of the Bible when arguing against American and European slavery. How could such a movement refer to the Bible to make its case if the Bible condones slavery?”

The Deadly Deception of Sexual Atheism in the Church

Below is an article on The Deadly Deception of Sexual Atheism in the Church by Kenny Luck, founder of Every Man Ministries, men’s pastor at Saddleback Church, and ChristianMingle.com advisory board member, provides biblically oriented teaching and leadership for men and pastors seeking relevant, timely material that battle cultural, worldly concepts threatening men and God’s men. Go to everymanministries.com for more information.

The guy sitting across from me is a professing and practicing Christian. He drops by my office unannounced today to talk to me about his new online-dating life. Specifically, he wants to talk about the over willingness of Christian women he has encountered on several of his dates who want to jump right from a very public conversation and vanilla latte at Starbucks to very private whispers and physical exchanges between the sheets back at his place.

Usually this gender scenario is reversed, but the sex, love and dating landscape continues to move in a progressively liberal direction among Christians without any solid indicators that it will change anytime soon. Both genders today, across all ages and Christian demographics, are prone to compartmentalize their faith away from their sexual life.

While Christian singles report that praying and church attendance are highly desirable qualities in the dating matrix, a troubling and confusing dichotomy arises when the issue of sex before marriage presents itself. Specifically, single Christians enter a sexual fog. That fog clouds and hides the reality that an identity rooted in Christ should manifest itself in intelligent and hope-filled sexual restraint based on God’s promises and instead replaces it with fear and pride-filled choices based on some other promise they believe more.

Does the Origin of Life Point to the Existence of God?

This video, excerpted from J. Warner Wallace’s presentation of the evidence for God (from his book, God’s Crime Scene), summarizes the case for Gods existence from the origin of life.

  • Has science answered the question of life’s origin?
  • How do philosophically natural scientists tackle the “chicken and egg” problems related to the origin of life?
  • What is the best explanation for the information found in the genetic code?

C.S. Lewis on Reasoning to Atheism – Apologetics 315

I love the way that C.S. Lewis can take some of the most challenge concepts that we face in life and formulate such succinct responses to them.  Here’s a little excerpt from his writings that addresses issues arising from atheistic belief and why belief in God is definitely reasonable. Hope you enjoy!

“Supposing there was no intelligence behind the universe, no creative mind. In that case, nobody designed my brain for the purpose of thinking.
