What is kindness? How is it demonstrated in the good news of Jesus?

What is kindness? How is it demonstrated in the good news of Jesus?

Compassion for the world

I desperately need more kindness and compassion in my life. I need to judge less and love more. That is the way of Jesus.

That is what Jesus calls us to do. We know we want others to be kind to us.We need to be kind and compassionate to others no matter what.

Kindness is the quality of compassion and generosity, characteristic of God’s dealings towards the weak and poor, and demanded of believers. The kindness is also shown in the words and deeds of Jesus the Messiah.

We need more compassion in our lives. Jesus shows us the way.

Compassion is an attitude of care and concern, grounded in pity and sympathy towards others, given to us by Jesus. Our compassion towards others should reflect the compassion of God for his people.

In the Greek, σπλαγχνίζομαι it means to be moved in the inward parts, i.e. to feel compassion. It is said of Jesus that:

Seeing the people, He felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and dispirited like sheep without a shepherd.”

Matthew 9:36

Who is Jesus? Does He show the goodness of God?

Consider the tenderness of Jesus the Messiah. Everywhere we turn, Jesus is moved and full of compassion. Jesus shows the goodness of God in everything He does.

Jesus is in a good mood. Day in and day out. Nothing but tenderness from our Master, the Messiah.

It is clear that Jesus loves. That is how Jesus rolls. God is love. Jesus is love. They are in a good mood. They want us to be whole and holy. I have a lot to learn. I am a disciple for that very reason.

What is compassion? Is it shown in our actions?

Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God, exemplified all of the Father’s attributes, including His compassion. When Jesus saw His friends weeping at the grave of Lazarus, He felt compassion for them and wept alongside them (John 11:33-35).

Am I weeping for my friends? Are my actions for my family always compassionate? Is the fruit of the Holy Spirit growing?

Moved with compassion for the suffering of others, Jesus healed the large crowds who came to Him (Matthew 14:14), as well as individuals who sought His healing (Mark 1:40-41).

What is compassion? Why is compassion important to Jesus?

This is striking. The first thing to note here is that Jesus saw the people. He didn’t look past them. He wasn’t preoccupied. Jesus sees us and sees our condition. Yes, we can be dispirited. We can be distressed.

Jesus sees. Jesus knows. What an amazing King we serve.

Compassion is an attitude of care and concern, grounded in love and sympathy towards others. It us given to us by Jesus. It is a great gift, shown by His mercy and grace.

Does God show kindness to His people?

I want the quality of compassion and generosity in my life. I need to learn how God loves the weak and poor.

It is demanded of us as a slaves of Jesus. We see that kindness is shown in the words and deeds of Jesus the Messiah.

In Galatians 5:22 I learn that “the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.”

How do we learn about tenderness?

Image result for jesus weptI think this is the most precious verse in the scripture.

Jesus wept!

Jesus cried.

Jesus sobbed.

It is clear that Jesus loves. That is how Jesus rolls. God is love. Jesus is love. They are in a good mood. They want us to be whole and holy.

Scripture

Isaiah 49:13-16 Christian Standard Bible (CSB)

Shout for joy, you heavens!
Earth, rejoice!
Mountains break into joyful shouts!
For the Lord has comforted his people,
and will have compassion on his afflicted ones.

Zion says, “The Lord has abandoned me;
the Lord has forgotten me!”
“Can a woman forget her nursing child,
or lack compassion for the child of her womb?
Even if these forget,
yet I will not forget you.
Look, I have inscribed you on the palms of my hands;
your walls are continually before me.

God is Good – Would that explain why God is in a good mood and does good? God is good y’all!

Image result for god is goodAll God’s perfect qualities are made freely available to all for the benefit of the whole world. God is good.

Jesus alerts us that God alone is good. God is good, kind, thoughtful, compassionate and loving. God is good, kind, thoughtful, compassionate and loving.

God so loved the world that He sent Jesus to die for us. God is good y’all.

Because God is good, God is in a good mood. It is a myth that the old testament (aka covenant) is all about an angry God. As James alerts us “Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.”

God never varies from being good. At all. Ever!

How Deep Is God’s Love?

Summer intern Marcy dives into the book of Hosea and how deep God’s love is for her.

Scripture

Hosea 11:8 Christian Standard Bible (CSB)

How can I give you up, Ephraim?
How can I surrender you, Israel?
How can I make you like Admah?
How can I treat you like Zeboiim?
I have had a change of heart;
my compassion is stirred!

What is Jesus concerned about as he is facing a slow and cruel death for us?

Mary at the crossJesus’ mother, his aunt, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene stood at the foot of the cross. They witness the cruel death of our Master Jesus. Imagine the sorrow in their hearts and souls.

Jesus saw his mother and the disciple he loved standing near her.

What is Jesus concerned about as he is facing a slow and cruel death for us? It is for his mother.

Jesus leads the way showing us it is not about us. It is about others. It is about family. He makes sure we are taken care of. No one is left behind.

While the soldiers were looking after themselves, Jesus’ mother, his aunt, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene stood at the foot of the cross. Jesus saw his mother and the disciple he loved standing near her. He said to his mother, “Woman, here is your son.” Then to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that moment the disciple accepted her as his own mother. | John 19:26-27 The Message (MSG)

His Compassions Fail Not

Lamentations 3:22
Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not.

While reading 1 Kings this morning, I was faced yet again with the fact that whenever I think I have the Lord “figured out,” that what I’m thinking is what He’s thinking, He blows my mind… a fresh revelation of what Isaiah 55:9 proclaims:

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord.

“For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are My ways higher than your ways,
And My thoughts than your thoughts.
