What is faithfulness? Is it seen to God as marital fidelity?

What is faithfulness? Is it seen to God as marital fidelity?

Faithfulness

Faithfulness is the proper response to God by his covenant people; seen in a steadfast commitment which reflects God’s own faithfulness to the covenant. Encouraged in all believers, it is especially important in leaders.

We are called to be faithful and trustworthy. I am challenged by this some days. When I think about it and focus on it, I execute God’s goal. Some days, like a sheep, I wander off.

12 Bible Characters Who Did Great Things for God in Their Old Age

Since I am getting older, I love this article from David Sanford. David coaches leaders passionate about demonstrating the relevance of Jesus Christ in every major sphere of life. His book and Bible projects have been published by Zondervan, Tyndale, Thomas Nelson, Doubleday, and Amazon. His speaking engagements have ranged everywhere from The Billy Graham Center at the Cove (NC) to UC Berkeley (CA).

Early in our marriage, Renée and I invested a lot of time with women and men in their 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s. One of our dear friends lived to be 101. Another lived to be 106. These two (and many others) showed us how to enjoy life to the full until the very end.

Over the past four decades, Renée and I have actively sought to model our lives after theirs…and after the lives of their favorite Bible characters.

So, who were their favorite Bible characters? We’ll begin with Adam, Enoch, and Noah…and end with Simeon, Anna, and John.

What We Believe

There is power in prayer. We see it every day. Let us join with you in tapping into the Power of God. Click here to make a request.

Our programs are like an immersion into a new language – the language of living in Jesus.  The goal is fluency in the language of relationships.  Programs share a sequential vision, building an understanding of relationships and family culture.  The foundation is an encounter with Jesus.  This encounter is the means for both insight and vision.  Encountering Jesus leads a radical change in living and relationships. Learn more here.

We are an inter-denominational ministry, and our desire is for transformation: a genuine change of heart and lifestyle that flows out of an intimate relationship with Jesus.

We believe:

  • Jesus is Lord. We exalt the One True God who made us and gave us the Lord Jesus Christ as our salvation. Our goal is to be a people with a heart for obedience to Christ in all things. His work made it possible for us to live – eternally and now – as children of God. Jesus made it possible for us to be rightly related to the Father and to one another. His desire is for us to succeed. We believe a right relationship with Him is the first and most important step.
  • The Bible is True. God’s Word is alive and active (Hebrews 4:12-13), which we take into our minds and spirits and live out through the flesh. When Jesus asked what the greatest commandment was, He said, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength. The second is this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these.” (Mark 12:30-31). The basis for everything we teach is “Life is Relationships.”
  • Presence and Power of the Holy Spirit. We desire to walk in and by the Spirit. The Holy Spirit (available to all believers) empowers Christians for living witness and dedicated service.

Am I a devoted slave of Jesus, the Messiah?

My role is one of a slave. I am a devoted slave of Jesus, the Messiah. Really? Yes, a slave. I belong to Him. Jesus is my Master. Jesus owns me.

I am on assignment. My Master gives me jobs to do.  Some days I get distracted but Jesus has given me a mission to complete. I am authorized to proclaim God’s words and acts.

So are you. We all are. I am not unique in this regard. Will I focus on what God has given me to do? That is today’s question. That is every day’s question.

Power of God

Quick Shot Responses to “There is No Evidence for God’s Existence”

Check this out from J. Warner Wallace. Great apologetic overview.

In this episode of the Cold-Case Christianity Broadcast, J. Warner offers a number of brief, rhetorically powerful responses to the objection: “There is No Evidence for God’s Existence.” How can we possibly make an affirmative case for the existence of God? Can we use an evidential approach, and if so, how would we approach this task?

These Quick Shot responses are designed to help you remove intellectual obstacles when talking about God with your friends and family members. They are also available on the Cold-Case Christianity Phone App so you can access them as you are interacting with others.

Questions about the importance of the first 11 chapters of the Bible to our modern world

This video is about Genesis Conf. Friday Q&A. We just finished the Relevance in Genesis conference with Tim Chaffey. You can read Tim’s bio here. You can also find out more about Tim at his Midwest Apologetic’s site. Tim is a prolific researcher and author. You can find his writings and DVD’s here.

Genesis, the first book of the Bible, is the foundation of all Christian doctrine. In it, we learn about the triune God,  the origin of all matter, the nature of man, why suffering and death exists, and the reason Jesus came to sacrifice His life for us. Genesis also contains accounts of the creation, the Global Flood, and the Tower of Babel – accounts that many Christians don’t see the importance of taking literally.

But if Genesis is not true, how can we trust the rest of the Bible?  Tim Chaffey of Answers in Genesis gave us compelling arguments for the first 11 chapters of the Bible and their importance to our modern world.

Tim Chaffey is the founder and director of Midwest Apologetics, a ministry dedicated to defending the word of God from the beginning to the end. Tim holds a M.Div. in Apologetics and Theology and a Th.M. in Church History and Theology from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary. He is the author of the books God and Cancer, Old-Earth Creationism on Trial, and In Defense of Easter. Tim is also content manager for Answers in Genesis’s Ark Encounter.

What is imperishable beauty? Why is it important? How do we get it?

Larry Pons opens up 1 Peter 3:1-7 and helps us see the imperishable beauty of a family in line with his word.

1 Peter 3:1-7 Christian Standard Bible (CSB)

Wives and Husbands

In the same way, wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands so that, even if some disobey the word, they may be won over without a word by the way their wives live when they observe your pure, reverent lives. Don’t let your beauty consist of outward things like elaborate hairstyles and wearing gold jewelry or fine clothes, but rather what is inside the heart the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight. For in the past, the holy women who put their hope in God also adorned themselves in this way, submitting to their own husbands, just as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord. You have become her children when you do what is good and do not fear any intimidation.

Husbands, in the same way, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with a weaker partner, showing them honor as coheirs of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered.

What is love? Is the God of the Old Testament a grumpy old man?

Somehow, we have this image of God, from the Old Testament, as an angry old man. Grumpy to the core. Perhaps it is the “flood narrative” and other stories.

God is God. Justice will be done. You can see this in the new agreement narratives of Jesus as well.

But, God is good. God is in a good mood. God loves us. Let us not doubt that for a second.

What is God’s kingdom like?

The joy of deliverance is amazing. When God sets us free, rejoicing is in order. We were tied up missing God’s goal (aka sin). Jesus, our Master, set us free. We are now His slaves.

What is God’s kingdom like? It is spiritual, not physical. Now that brings celebration because we can have it now. We can be ecstatic.

We can embrace joy. We have great news!

What is power? Are manifestations of the power of God able to change lives?

Be encouraged as you listen to a few from our Sunday fellowship stand and share what the Lord is doing in their lives, in Franklin and across the globe.

About the Christian Training Center

The Christian Training Center International was founded in the early 1970’s as The Inn of the Last Resort. It is now known throughout the world for its outreach to families, Christian leaders, and young people. Our focus is to enable individuals – especially young men and women – to face and overcome the mounting issues and pressures in their daily lives.

The most effective way to learn a foreign language is through immersion. In complete immersion, students spend all their time hearing and speaking a new language in a sequential and cumulative format. The goal is to become not only a proficient speaker, but to acquire an appreciation and understanding of a new culture. This approach describes the training process at CTCI.

How do the miracles of Jesus reveal and confirm his Messianic credentials and the coming of God’s Kingdom?

Image result for miracle jesusThere are so many stunning, amazing and supernatural acts of Jesus. They reveal and confirm his Messianic credentials. They announce the coming of God’s kingdom. The miracles of the Messiah are to be seen as an integral part of his ministry and are signs that point to the power of God.

We tend to think of the dramatic miracles where Jesus heals the sick. Jesus also casts out demons with evil obeying Him. Most amazing of all, Jesus raises the dead. Jesus also had authority of nature and natural forces. Jesus establishes that “nothing is impossible with God”.

John tells us that “many other signs Jesus also performed in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.”

The Greek word for miracle is δύναμις dunamis, doo´-nam-is. Think of the power of dynamite. It is stunning and amazing power, i.e. the power of the Holy Spirit from God the Father. It is the power that raised Jesus from the dead, never to die again.

What is peace, how do we make peacemaking real and what is the promise of Jesus?

Image result for peacemaker jesusJesus says:

“Happy [blessed] are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.”

The commendation of peacemakers – It is one thing to keep the peace and it is quite another to make peace. In the one case it already exists, in the other we are calling it into existence since it is lacking. Jesus calls us to be peacemakers. That is a huge challenge. Jesus gives us the power! We are to seek peace. We are to pursue peace. We are not to let up until we achieve it. Jesus challenges us to be tenacious.

How is peace made? Where does it come from? Consider this from Paul in Colossians (1:20). “Through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven.”

What is hypocrisy? Why it is evil and hated by Jesus?

Image result for hypocrite

Hypocrisy is an outward pretense masking an inner reality. Jesus condemns hypocrisy, especially in matters of faith. Followers of Jesus should express their commitment to God in their words and their deeds, as well as in their inner motivation. There should always be alignment of the heart, the mind and our actions.

Jesus is clear and hates hypocrites. Jesus calls it out all the time. Our contempt allows us to ignore its reality in our lives. I must change my mind (aka repent).

The Greek word is ὑποκριτής (hupŏkritēs, hoop-ok-ree-tace) meaning  an actor under an assumed character (stage-player), i.e. a dissembler (“hypocrite”):— hypocrite.

The origin of hypocrisy  – Our nature is one that is fallen and we constantly miss God’s goal (aka sin). We try to cover that up by appearing to be a good person. I am not. You are not.
